Food is medicine. The plant kingdom is a living pharmacy. Ayurveda combines deep understanding of the energetics of herbs and human body-mind constitution to bring wellness. Read on to find out how Ayurveda can help promote wellness and prevent ailments through Mother Nature's bounty.
Ayurveda is an ancient stand-alone holistic healthcare system from India.
आयुर अस्मिन् विद्यते इति आयुर्वेदः
āyur asmin vidyate iti āyurvedaḥ - suśruta saṃhita
Ayurveda is a combination of two words in saṃskṛtaṃ, "Äyu" which means life, and "Veda" which means knowledge. Veda comes from the root word "Vid" which means “to know”. In other words, it is a body of knowledge that contains information about understanding life. According to Ayurveda, the definition of health is much broader than simply absence of diseases. It states that a healthy person is someone whose physical body, sensory and motor organs, mind and spirit are in a pleasant state. A lofty goal in today's world but desirable nonetheless. Believed to be at least 5,000 years old, it is a multi-faceted practice that employs various different techniques to bring balance and well-being in an individual including individualized diet, herbal support, massages, etc.
The wisdom of Ayurveda is timeless and universal in scope. In fact, one can argue that Ayurveda is more applicable today than it was, say, 100 years ago when people around the world mostly stuck to traditional diets. Today, we are inundated with food choices resulting in decision fatigue. Today, we have access to unseasonal fruits/vegetables and foods that was once considered unimaginable. And yet, the disease burden of humanity remains high. Ayurveda offers a unique and effective model to make smart and simple food choices to achieve our health goals. Whether you are on a vacay in Cabo, on a business trip to Stockholm, or on your home turf in Canada, wisdom of Ayurveda will guide you to lead a healthy life. It sets you free from calorie calculators and still let you crush your weight-loss goals. When applied systematically and consistently, Ayurveda empowers you to arrest the ageing process and disease- process in its tracks, unleashing a whole new "self" full of vitality!
